07|12|16 • Berlin Berlin united, again and again

PLANTAGE BERLIN has developed a print campaign that makes Berliners feel proud of their involvement during the refugee crisis and encourages openness, tolerance and engagement.

“A city that can speak over 110 languages can say more than ‘Welcome’” — PLANTAGE BERLIN takes GermanNow! founder Susanne Ceron Baumann’s words as one of their advertisement and poster motifs that fall under the motto “Berlin united, again and again”. The campaign seeks to show that the capital is up to the refugee influx, how many people are engaged in helping efforts — and that Berlin can do it again.

The campaign is intended to make Berliners proud of their city and also serve as an appeal for greater openness, tolerance and engagement. In light of the last months’ stream of refugees, the challenge now is to cope with the problems of structure and integration. Many people feel unsettled and that number is growing.

Germany would like to tackle these challenges positively. This goes especially for the country’s capital, Berlin — the very DNA of which is its diversity and welcoming culture.

"Refugee integration is a huge challenge for Europe. For Berlin, it is the greatest challenge since its reunification. Berlin has already triumphed in the face of this challenge often in its history. In the past few months, several initiatives have been launched that show that, even in the present situation, 'We can do it!' is more than an expression -- it is a concrete action. That is what we aim to show with our campaign," says André Schmitz-Schwarzkopf, Chairman of the Schwarzkopf Foundation.

The motifs were realised by PLANTAGE BERLIN pro bono for the Schwarzkopf Foundation. The foundation launched the initiative in cooperation with multiple partners and, from today, the advertising campaign can be seen in wide-reaching, Berlin daily newspapers; the Out-of-Home Campaign with Mega-Light posters will begin on the 19 July.

“Especially as a Berlin agency we were naturally excited to be able to create a bold contribution to the future of Berlin. Many thanks go to Marion Heine who initiated this collaboration,” says Alexander Weber-Grün, Managing Director of PLANTAGE BERLIN.
