IBM iX, the digital agency under the umbrella of IBM, looks back on an exciting 2019 full of varied and interesting engagements with InsurLab members and start-ups. Alexander Hubitsch, Director Digital Banking & Insurance at IBM iX Studio Berlin, summarizes the highlights and looks ahead to 2020.
Keynote speech on the quarterly topic "From reimburser to life companions" Cologne on 7 May 2019
There are more important things in life than insurance! With this statement we explicitly sensitized InsurLab members to the tension between business interests and user interests in a keynote speech. Great solutions that are permanently successful in the market can only be created if a balance between these two poles of interest is achieved - this was one of the key messages of the keynote speech.
Workshop Agile Product Development for Startups and Members
Cologne on 4 July 2019
After the new 2019 batch moved onto the InsurLab campus, the start-ups were treated to an all-day workshop on agile product development, organized and conducted by the IBM iX mentoring crew from Berlin. In the course of the workshop, the participants gained many insights full of know-how - all garnished with hands-on exercises and open discussion rounds. In addition to the classic topics such as business design, UX/UI design and product ownership, less familiar aspects were also covered - such as establishing an agile devOps culture in the company and the best practice architecture for a continuous integration & delivery pipeline.
Breakout session on the quarterly topic IoT solutions for the insurance industry
Munich on 11 July 2019
From the Solution Demo Show at the IBM Watson IoT Center to the Design Thinking Breakout session, which provided a playful way to develop IoT business ideas, InsurLab members were able to experience the topic of IoT in the Member-to-Member format. Together with colleagues from IBM GBS and Global Markets we designed the workshop part of the event for the members.
2019: A great result
The results of our commitment to the InsurLab so far are a lot of new network contacts, new ideas and new impulses from the industry. In addition, sales cooperation with several InsurLab start-ups and the perspective of advising and supporting an InsurLab start-up during product development and market launch has been established.
Coming soon: InsureNXT CGN 2020
The next major milestone in our commitment will be the content of the InsureNXT in Cologne at the end of April. We are already looking forward to being part of this event and to shaping the year 2020 together with the InsurLab members and start-ups!

Alexander Hubitsch is a director on the industry management committee for Digital Banking & Insurance at Aperto, the IBM iX Studio in Berlin. His focus there is on setting up agile innovation and development teams and supporting his clients in digital product development - from the first product vision in the local garage to global scaling as an industry-specific industry solution.
