It’s been live since 26 November: the new www.bundeswehr.de! After almost 14 years on the internet, the German Armed Forces (Bundeswehr) has thus created a modern presence that suits its communication requirements. Aperto designed and implemented the relaunch of the portal as part of the comprehensive digital transformation process on behalf of BWI GmbH, the IT system provider and digitization partner of the German Armed Forces. More than 67 different websites were combined in one new platform.
"With the reorganization the main appearance bundeswehr.de is to be strengthened as central information platform”, explains Colonel Arne Collatz, leader of the editorship of the German Armed Forces. "We wanted to develop an attractive, user-friendly and understandable website. More and more people are using smartphones to access information. The old website was not designed for this.”
The portal is based on the CoreMedia content management system and is implemented in a responsive design, barrier-free and in contemporary gender-neutral language. The look is based on the new corporate design of the Bundeswehr, polygon and camouflage instead of grey and white. The user journey has been significantly improved through a holistic information offering and a new content strategy.
"We are delighted to support the goal of the German Armed Forces and BWI of acting and communicating together as 'one' Bundeswehr in the digital space. Implementing such complex projects from conception to implementation is one of our core competencies and is always a great challenge," says Stephan Haagen, Managing Director of Aperto - An IBM Company.
The process is going to be continued. It is planned to add a protected area to the bundeswehr.de portal where relatives can log in and obtain additional information. There will also be an accompanying app.
BWI GmbH, the digitization partner of the German Armed Forces and the Federal Ministry of Defense, as well as the federal IT service center, are the contracting party and tendering authority for the project. As a 100-percent federal company, BWI operates and modernizes the non-military information and communications technology of the Bundeswehr and is the federal IT service center for other departments. The framework contracts with Aperto covers creative, implementation and editorial services for all digital presences of the Federal Ministry of Defense (BMVg) for a period of four years.
Aperto, in cooperation with BWI, has already proved its online communication expertise to BMVg with the relaunch of the Ministry's web presence in 2017. Additional clients in the public sector include the German Foreign Office, the German government, the German Pension Fund and the Federal Centre for Health Education.
With over 4,500 employees and an annual turnover of around 1 billion euros, BWI GmbH ranks among the top 10 largest IT service providers in Germany. As a 100-percent government-owned company, BWI is an IT system house and digitization partner of the German Armed Forces and an IT service center of the federal government. Its range of services covers the entire spectrum of information technology and telecommunications: from conception to implementation and operation. More information at: www.bwi.de
