Digital agencies Babiel and Aperto were able to win over the Foreign Office in a multiple-phase tender process, and together are now developing the agency’s and its embassies’ new digital presences. The goal of the project is to consolidate all existing national and international websites and migrate them to a standardised Content Management System (CMS) with a new design. Tasks include the worldwide implementation, maintenance and development of the CoreMedia 8-based CMS, as well the development of new and existing apps.
The Foreign Office represents Germany’s interests throughout the world, promoting international exchange and offering Germans overseas protection and help. The external communication is conducted through the agency’s extensive internet presences. These currently comprise the German and English versions of www.auswaertiges-amt.de as well as over 500 websites from the 230 German embassies — in 64 languages.
Through the relaunch, a responsive web presence will be created according to the latest technical standards, that both represents foreign policy in a sophisticated and professional way and offers access to extensive information about all states worldwide. The future CMS will also cover all the latest IT security requirements, and retain high accessibility, in order to guarantee the access to travel and security information.
All employees of the Foreign Office, irrespective of their location, will be assisted with the CMS throughout the world.
The service delivery period for the collaborative relaunch project has been set at four years, with the option to extend. The Foreign Office already features in the portfolios of both Babiel and Aperto with various projects.
