Digital agencies Babiel and Aperto have given the Foreign Office’s website a comprehensive overhaul. As well as a new design and improved user experience, the website also underwent a technical restructure in its migration to the Coremedia 8 content management system.
The relaunch marks a significant milestone in the contemporary eCitizen experience. The Foreign Office and its embassies draw traffic around the clock and around the globe with a correspondingly high level of user expectations. To keep up with these demands, the website was reconstructed according to the newest technical standards that prioritise service, present foreign policy professionally and clearly, and provide comprehensive information on every country, worldwide.
At the same time, the Sicher Reisen app was given a complete overhaul with a location-based concept equipped with new features including push notifications for travel warnings; travel checklists and a crisis notification function.
Next in line after the ministry’s web relaunch are those of their 230 consulates abroad: around 500 websites in 64 languages will be consolidated and migrated into a consistent content management platform. Through the new, internationally adapted design, a unified identity will be played out on all digital channels.
Through the website migration to the Coremedia CMS, the new web presence is not only in accordance with all the latest security standards that guarantee the integrity and authenticity of the available information, it also provides an efficient foundation for future expansion.
In addition, the platform offers all employees worldwide, secure access and an ease of use when working within the content management system. Alongside structured workflows and optimised editing functions, editors’ work is supported through a fully integrated video management system.
The infrastructure is operated in one of the data centres certified by the Federal Office of Information Security (BSI) which guarantees that citizens have access to travel and safety information at all times.
